Sierra to the Sea, 2000

On June 18, 2000, six Lehigh Wheelmen: Dan Chiavaroli, Byron Cook, Neil Dicker, Stuart Field, Ron Kirkorian, and Terry Terfinko, joined The Almaden Cycle Touring Club for their 'Sierra to the Sea 2000'.

There were 120 riders, the majority coming from California. We rode 464 miles in seven days with 27,000 feet of climbing, 500 feet to 5500 feet a day. We visited the foothills of the Sierras (Gold Country), Napa Valley, Sonoma Valley, Old Sacramento, Davis ( The Bicycling Capitol of America with more than 40,000 bikes), Calistoga (Hot Springs), the Russian River, vineyards and wineries along with Korbel Champagne Cellars, the Coastal Redwoods, the Pacific coast line, Bodega Bay, Sausalito, Marin county, and finished by riding over the Golden Gate bridge into San Francisco. The tremendous efforts of the members of the Almaden CTC made this possible.

The itinerary for the ride was

Columbia (near Sonora in the Sierra foothills)
Jackson (still in the foothills)
Folsom (Johnny Cash country)
Lake Solano (the extreme other end of the Sacramento Valley)
Calistoga (trendy resort town)
Duncans Mills (on the Russian River)
Olema
San Francisco
